My name is Crystal West, and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California. I have worked with diverse populations across the lifespan and have yet to pick a favorite. I believe that we all develop coping skills based on our life experiences, but for many of us, those skills no longer serve a purpose or may begin to negatively impact our well-being.
My approach to therapy begins with trauma-informed care and includes psychoeducation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and experimenting with new coping skills so you can learn better ways of interacting with the world around you.
Many clients are stuck in a state of fight or flight, which can lead to symptoms of anxiety or depression, anger, interpersonal conflict and much more. I would love to help you get back to the person you truly want to be.
Prior to starting my journey as a therapist, I served in the United States Air Force for eight years. I am eternally grateful for the skills and support I received during my enlistment. It was my time in the service that allowed me to attend graduate school.
I attended the University of the Rockies in Colorado Springs, Co and was blessed with serving a unique population of clients during the course of my program. At that time, I primarily worked with individuals and couples who were struggling with depression, anxiety, personality disorders, grief and loss, and adapting to life changes. I worked with active-duty and prior military, individuals in recovery, parolees, and victims of domestic violence/abuse who sought confidential victim advocacy.
Following graduation, I returned to my hometown of Bishop, California, where I am proud to be able to serve. Upon my return, I worked for Inyo County Child Protective Services and transitioned to Behavioral Health in the Child and Family division. While working with children and their families, I provided parent-child, play, and behavioral therapies through the lens of trauma-informed care.
During the Pandemic, I made the decision to transition to telehealth with AbleTo which allowed me to become familiar with working with individuals across the entire state of California. In this position, I provided Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to individuals over the age of eighteen who were struggling with depression, anxiety, health-related issues, grief and loss, caregiver stress, and postpartum depression/anxiety.
I made the decision to open my private practice so that I can serve clients in my local community, while continuing to connect with individuals throughout the state. If you feel that my approach to therapy could help you get your life back on track, please reach out to schedule an appointment.
